Andrea Kirshenbaum and Darren Creasy Present on Disruptive Patrons and Employment Law Risk at 2017 Hospitality Law Conference on April 25
On April 25, 2017, Andrea M. Kirshenbaum and Darren M. Creasy presented, "When Patrons Attack: Employment Law Risk and the Disruptive Customer," at the 15th Annual Hospitality Law Conference in Houston, TX.
Ms. Kirshenabum's and Mr. Creasy's presentation focused on disruptive and unruly patrons at hotels, bars, and restaurants and the often overlooked employment risks that come with them. The law requires that employers prevent and remedy harassment on the basis of any protected class such as sex, race, religion, national origin, and, depending on where you live, even such things as obesity and sexual orientation. Unruly and/or abusive customers and guests can create or contribute to a hostile work environment that may represent an employment litigation risk. The presentation examined examples of unruly patrons and how employers can mitigate the associated risks, protect their employees, and minimize exposure in the event of litigation.
