Employment Principal Andrea Kirshenbaum Examines the DOL's Budget Proposals and Insights into Compliance Priorities for the May 4 Legal Intelligencer

In her May 2015 Wage and Hour column for The Legal Intelligencer, Employment & Employee Relations Principal Andrea M. Kirshenbaum looks at the Department of Labor's recent budget proposals for fiscal year 2016.

She notes that the budget requests offer a window into the DOL's "compliance priorities and initiatives, which continue to focus on directed investigations initiated by the DOL in 'high risk' industries and so-called 'fissured workplaces.'

"Given the DOL’s stepped-up enforcement efforts, as well as the level of private wage and hour litigation, employers, especially those in industries identified by the DOL as 'targeted industries'—restaurants, hotels, construction, janitorial, retail, agriculture, manufacturing, and health care—should assess their compliance with the FLSA."
