Health Care Principal Ed Shay Presents on Lawyers as Business Associates to the Health Care Industry at PBI's 20th Annual Health Law Institute on March 13

On March 13, 2014, Health Care Principal Edward F. Shay presented, "Lawyers as Business Associates," at at the Pennsylvania Bar Association's (PBI) 20th Annual Health Law Institute.

PBI's annual Health Law Institute provides attendees with education and insight on innovative concepts, current trends, and legal updates, as well as professional networking, first class reference materials and a top notch faculty. The Institute has a proven track record of teaching practical and realistic solutions to everyday and unexpected problems in health law.

The final HITECH rules are a wake-up call for lawyers who practice in-house and at law firms that qualify as business associates. The new rules impose a wide array of privacy and security requirements that must be implemented in a manner that is consistent with the Rules of Professional Conduct. Mr. Shay's presentation helped attendees understand the current HIPAA requirements and recognize the ethical challenges for many lawyers and firms that agree to become business associates of health care clients.

Mr. Shay also served on the Institute's Planning Team for this year's event.
