Post & Schell Expands Washington D.C. Energy Practice with Addition of Principal Doug Canter

WASHINGTON, D.C. and PHILADELPHIA, Pa.  – July 1, 2013 – Post & Schell, P.C., a leading industry-centric law firm, today announced that Douglas Canter has joined the Firm as a Principal. Mr. Canter joins Post & Schell’s growing Energy Practice, resident in the Firm’s Washington, D.C. Office.

Mr. Canter brings over 30 years of experience working with clients in the energy industry, including natural gas producers and distributors, interstate and intrastate natural gas pipelines, and electric utilities and industrial businesses, on regulatory and other legal issues related to the purchase, sale and transportation of electric power and natural gas.

His experience includes a wide range of contract, rate, permitting, certificate, abandonment, compliance and jurisdictional matters before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), the Department of Energy, the Department of Transportation, state public service commissions and courts of appeal, as well as related transactional work.

Mr. Canter comes to Post & Schell from the Washington, D.C. office of McCarthy, Sweeney & Harkaway, P.C., where he was a member and head of the Firm’s Energy Practice Group. He also previously served as a Public Utility Attorney with FERC, acting as a trial attorney for the Commission in interstate natural gas pipeline rate and certificate matters, and drafting oil and natural gas pipeline orders for advisory staff. He was recognized with FERC’s “Outstanding Service Award” in 1982-83.

Mr. Canter is a recognized author of articles on legal issues and trends in energy and other industries, including topics such as renewable energy, demand response, green building, energy benchmarking, storm water management, and other energy and sustainability issues. His work has been published in the Energy Law Journal, American Bar Association Energy Committees Newsletter and Discovery Channel Tech Online News, among others.

He is a 1979 graduate of the University of Baltimore School of Law, and received his B.A. in Economics from Bucknell University and his M.A. in Nonfiction and Technical Writing from Johns Hopkins University. Mr. Canter has a AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell based on peer reviews and is listed in the 2013 edition of Super Lawyers.
